Do PTFE bars work with regular body jewelry of the same size gauge? Can I cut the bar down on my own?
Hip Surface piercing

I have had my cheeks pierced for a while and I have decided it is time for a change. The balls are screwed on pretty tightly so I don't want to bother taking them off if I can't change them. I'd really like to know if the PTFE bars can work with the same size gauge accessories or do I have to use internally threaded jewelry or a specific type besides the ones I've mentioned. My second question is can I cut down the bar on my own with scissors or a razor blade or do I need to go to a body-piercer? I've never had a PTFE bar before and I'm otherwise really knowledgeable with this subject so I feel kind of stupid asking these questions. I'd prefer someone answer this who is 100% sure and may actually be a body piercer. I'd really appreciate someone answering this that actually knows what they are talking about. Thank-you in advance.

Yes, ptfe ones are good.

You an cut it down and then you when you twist the ball on it will be threaded and good for any ball.

what types of body jewelry can be used for lip piercings for sensitive teeth?
Nape and paired conches

I've had my lip pierced for a couple months now, and its time to change the jewelry. Right now I have the basic 16 gauge labret that it was pierced with, but now I'm realizing that the bar is way too long for my mouth (I know they had to give me a longer one since my mouth swelled for the first few weeks). Also, I've noticed that my teeth and gums have become a lot more sensitive since I got it pierced, and I've never had problems with my teeth before. Also, I noticed that when I'm in colder weather it hurts a lot more than usual (I figured it was a combination of the metal and cold air).

So I'm wondering if there are any types of lip jewelry that will have less damage on my teeth and help with the sensitivity. Like any style of jewelry (bar or ring) or type of jewelry (stainless steel, titanium, plastic, etc) that will be safe for long term ware and be the least problematic?

Thanks

Body jewelry from Spencers Gift Shop?
Bassline Bunnies Photo Shoot

I purchased a pack of tongue rings yesterday from Spencers in Emerald mall. I am wondering if anyone knows if the jewelry sold there is surgical steel?I recently got my tongue pierced and I plan on replacing the long bar with a spencers barbell. I have allergic reactions if the metal is not of top quality. If anyone knows could you please tell me? The type of metal was not written on the package, and the jewelry is by 'Body Rage.' Thanks for any help

My Body Jewelry and piercing prices?
Bassline Bunnies Photo Shoot

I was just wanting to see if anyone thought my prices should be higher. Where I pierce and sell jewelry at, my prices are cheaper than any place around, and it's also the ONLY place within twenty miles of my town that does piercings and sells jewelry. Here are some of my prices:
Acrylic CBRs-$5.00 per pair
Hematite CBRs (per pair)
14g-$7.00
12g-$8.50
10g-$10.00
Tongue Bars-$5.00 each
3 for $12.00
Eyebrow Jewelry-$4.00
3 for $10.00
Koosh Ball Bars-$8.00
Fake 4g Spike Plugs (14g)-$15.00 (pair)
Labret Spikes-$5.00
Jewelled 14k Gold Labrets - $10.00 each
4g Tunnels - $10.00 (pair)
Pichers (per pair)
12g - $8.50
10g - $10.00
8g - $12.50
6g - $15.00
4g - $18.00
2g - $20.00
Jewelled Nose Screws - $4.00 each
Acrylic Navel Bars - $5.00 each
3 for $12.00
Double Jewelled Navel Bars - $10.00 each

For piercings I charge $15 plus the price of their jewelry. I also only get 75% of what I make.

Honestly if I saw jewlery prices that low I would probably walk.

I've done my share of jewlery shopping and all of the wholesalers that i've seen charge prices that leave you a very small profit margin on what you're selling them at. Unless of course the jewlery is the crap that you can buy 200 for 99 cents on ebay. Not that yours neccessarily is, you may just be Mother Theresa of body jewlery sales, but I wouldn't care to take the chance.

I pay my piercer the prices she charges (which are higher, but not at all unreasonable) because I KNOW she is using implant grade jewlery in new piercings and only carries quality jewlery for sale. Super cheap body jewlery in a new piercing is just asking for clients to turn up with bad reactions and problems. It is better business to reduce the risk as much as humanly possible, even if it means charging a little more.

If you're ordering quality jewlery and only making a tiiiiiiny little profit for yourself, raise the prices. You have quality pieces, so charge something reasonable for them.

I live in and keep an interested eye/ear out for shops around St Louis Missouri.

In this area your prices for pinchers are right on. The price for hoops is fantastic, and you could probably go a couple of dollars higher per set.
I would never buy a 14k gold labret stud that could be had for 10 dollars at retail. I'm suspicious of gold jewlery to begin with.
Nostril screws at 4 dollars I would assume to be the same quality that you can get in a pack at the mall, which is fair. However as a studio you may want to offer something of a higher quality to clients instead or at least as well. Girls get really sick of losing jewels and eventually will jump on the idea of a better, longer lasting stud if you can offer it.

Navel barbells here are 10-15 dollars.

Tongue bars are around 5 dollars here at the mall, but must be bought in sets of 3-4. The 5 dollar option would charm customers. Depending on your area, you might want to carry larger gauges as well. Tongue stretching is in vogue around here, so there is some demand for 12-4g sizes.

In my area piercings are listed as a packaged deal. Most local piercers do not seperate charges for jewlery and the piercing itself. For oral piercings a change to a shorter bar/stud or smaller hoop is also usually included. Often there is an aftercare solution given as well (sea salt for belly piercings etc, or biotene mouthwash for oral piercings) ensuring the client has the right things to clean a piercing with. Keeping the presentation as a whole prevents questions of "well what if I bring my own jewlery" etc. The piercer's I've spoken with don't like inserting strange jewlery due to quality concerns, and listing the piercing as all inclusive solves the problem. In personal experience I've seen plenty of clients soothed when they ask "That includes the jewlery right?" and they are answered with "Yes, its the piercing, the jewlery, the aftercare product you will need, and in two weeks you can come back and we will downsize your jewlery for you once the swelling is gone." THAT is a presentation that will put someone at ease in your shop.

30-50 dollars is an acceptable price for the usual piercings. Industrials, surface, and "complicated" genital piercings (ampallangs, frenum ladders, fourchettes, etc) run 60-100 depending on the shop and piercing. The difference between 30 in one shop and 50 in another is usually not enough to sway desireable (people with common sense who will follow aftercare instructions) customers. If you have the reputation and experience, you will attract clients even with higher prices.

Best of luck on the shop!
