How can I tell if a bead is made of Bone or just costume jewelry?
I have a necklace and some of my friends say the beads are made of bone / ivory, while others say it is a hard plastic...How can I tell? Maybe there is a test one can do. Or a website that can help.
Put it under a microscope. If it has cell structure and striations, it's bone. Plastic will be homogeneous, and may show other signs of manufacture.

Looking for ideas for the best ways to get nice beads and findings to make costume jewelry.?
Trying to start up my own costume jewelry collection and wondering if anyone out there does this or knows anyone doing it and where they get their supplies if they do not actually make everything themselves.

How to clean old acrylic costume jewelry?
oh, what a score i found at the antique store!
old acrylic (lucite, bakelite?) strung necklaces & bracelets, funky earrings, and a TON of plastic bangles.
So much is so very lovely and i'm just itching to make things out of it, but lots of it is dirty, with a sticky dust like film on it.
anyone know how i can clean the film of without damaging the beads that seem to be painted acrylic?
they're so lovely and light weight, perfect for chunky bracelets and earrings, but i'm scared i'll destroy them :(
any advice?
well lets see if u don't want to use em try 2 not wear it like everyday so u won't lose em...
well if they get dirty try cleaning it with toothpast(i knoe it sounds wierd but it makes it look shiny)if not go to walmart or where ever u go 2 shop buy this thing its called jelery cleaner(something like that)u'll find it in the jewlery section.

I inherited a tremendous amount of my grandmother's costume jewelry. Most of the necklaces are like the ones in the store that are so popular with the large colorful beads. What type of earrings do you wear when wearing a med/lg. beaded necklace and what neckline do these necklaces look good with?
a low neckline or a high neckline just not medium earring should be a all most invisible or a good size simple hoop

Does anyone know where/how to find trade journals for jewelry? Mostly costume or fashion jewelry?
My sister and I make handmade jewelry . We are rather new to this business and need to find out the fashion trends without traveling if possible. We use gemstones and lampwork and crystal beads and have good sources for suppliers,just don't how to get the trade news I know is out there! Thank you for your answers ahead of time. faerylady54
